Editorial Policy

Scope and audience

ChemicaLife serves readers seeking practical explanations of household and applied chemistry. We write for a general audience and define technical terms when they affect a decision. We avoid presenting generalized content as individualized medical, occupational, engineering, or regulatory advice.

Source standards

Safety-critical claims should be supported by the best available source for the question. We generally prioritize:

1. Current product labels and manufacturer Safety Data Sheets
2. Government and intergovernmental agencies, regulations, and official guidance
3. Standards organizations and recognized scientific databases
4. Peer-reviewed research and authoritative technical references
5. Secondary sources used for context, not as the sole basis for high-risk claims

Drafting and review

Editors define the user’s question, identify conditions that could change the answer, gather sources, draft the explanation, check units and chemistry, add limitations, and verify that the cited material supports the published claim. Calculators are checked with known examples and boundary cases before publication.

Safety language

We distinguish between hazard and risk, do not treat “natural” as a synonym for safe, and avoid categorical assurances when formulation or concentration matters. We do not encourage readers to test unknown combinations. Where consequences may be serious, prevention and escalation guidance take priority over experimentation.

AI-assisted work

AI or other software may assist with outlines, drafting, editing, coding, or quality checks. It does not replace source verification. We do not cite an AI system as evidence, and we do not knowingly publish unverified generated claims as fact.

Commercial independence

Advertising and sponsorship must be visually distinguishable from editorial content. Sponsors do not receive control over conclusions. Paid links are qualified appropriately, and unrelated third-party content intended primarily to manipulate search rankings is not accepted.

Updates and corrections

Material is reviewed when a credible correction is submitted, a source changes, or a tool’s assumptions need revision. Significant corrections may be noted on the affected page. Minor spelling or formatting changes may be made without a correction note. See our Corrections Policy.

Authorship

Team-produced work uses the ChemicaLife Editorial Team byline. Named contributors or reviewers should be identified only when their participation and relevant background can be accurately described.
